Originally posted as an image macro on 4chan in May 2019, the Backrooms exploded into a massive internet mythology. The concept — a liminal space accessed by 'noclipping' out of reality — spawned thousands of community-written levels, a found-footage film series by Kane Pixels, and a huge wiki. It's one of the most successful collaborative horror worldbuilding projects ever created.
